Parlet
Invasion Of The Booty Snatchers - 1979

We're living in really sad times. Lots of important people have been dying in the past couple years, but few have hit me as hard as Gary Shider's death just a few days ago.

Gary needed no introduction and no words need be said about him. He deserves both those things, though. Besides being one hell of a singer and guitar player, he was also such a huge persona on stage. He also seemed to be the glue that kept The P-Funk on the one for so long. He and George met in the mid 60s but didn't record together until 1971. He quickly became an integral part of the P-funk camp and would be for the next 40 years. George aside, Gary had to be the longest active P-funk member.

Parlet was a vocal spin-off group from the P-Funk. It was originally intended to be The Parlettes, the female companion to the male Parliaments, much like Motown's The Primes and The Primettes. When things got funkier for George he shortened the name to Parlet.

So here it is. All The usual names; Goins, Catfish, Bootsy, Kid Funkadelic, Bernie and of course Gary Shider. George Clinton's only credit on this record is co-producing it and co-writing 3 of the 6 tracks.

You know it's gonna be good. It really is strange that this stuff isn't available to buy. Especially since you can buy all the Parliament albums for under 10 bucks a piece (except the first and last).

Gary's family is trying to raise some money to help with various medical bills and other costs. Please come out to a Funkraiser or donate through their website.

Rest In P, Gary...
